Course Overview
Take a journey around the world without leaving the classroom! This engaging, interdisciplinary class invites students to explore diverse cultures and communities through the universal languages of music, storytelling, visual art, and dance.
Each unit will transport students to a different region of the world, introducing them to the people, animals, natural beauty, and creative expressions that shape each culture. Through stories, movement, hands-on art projects, and cultural exploration, students will discover how people across the globe use the arts to celebrate, communicate, and connect.
Students will:
- Explore music and instruments from around the world
- Experience traditional and contemporary dances
- Discover folktales, myths, legends, and stories that help them relate to each culture
- Create art inspired by geographic location, culture or influenced by a master artist
- Learn about cultural celebrations, customs, and traditions
- Develop an appreciation for cultural diversity and different perspectives
- Participate in hands-on, creative activities that bring each culture to life
Most importantly, this class is designed to foster curiosity, creativity, respect, and global awareness. Students will discover that although cultures may look and sound different, music, stories, art, and dance can connect us through shared experiences of joy, family, celebration, community, and expression.
